Why are Ford Galaxies no longer in production?

I grew up hearing stories about the legendary Ford Galaxies, but why did they stop being made? I've seen some classic models on the road, but why did Ford stop producing them?

I have a 1967 Ford Galaxy and it still runs like a dream. I would highly recommend purchasing one if you can find a well-maintained model. They may not be in production, but the classic models are still going strong.
