Why is the Ford Galaxy overheating during my long drive?

I have a 2017 Ford Galaxy and I noticed that it starts to overheat after I've been driving for a few hours. The temperature gauge goes all the way up to the red and I have to pull over and let it cool down. What could be causing this issue and how can I prevent it?
