Why does my Ford Focus engine make a knocking sound?

I recently purchased a used Ford Focus and have noticed that the engine makes a knocking sound whenever I start it up. I want to make sure this is not a serious issue before taking it to a mechanic. Can anyone offer some insight on why this could be happening and what steps I should take to fix it?

Hi Samantha, it's possible that the knocking sound could be caused by a few different things. It could be a sign of low oil levels or dirty oil, a problem with the spark plugs, or even something more serious like a worn out engine bearing.

Hi Samantha, I would recommend taking your car to a trusted mechanic and having them do a thorough inspection of the engine. They will be able to identify the exact cause of the knocking sound and provide you with the best course of action to fix it.

Hey Samantha, another common reason for a knocking sound in a Ford Focus engine is a faulty timing belt. I would suggest bringing your car to a certified Ford dealership for a proper diagnosis and repair if needed.
