Why is my Ford Focus engine making a tapping noise?

I recently purchased a Ford Focus and have noticed a tapping noise coming from the engine. The noise seems to be more noticeable when the car is idling but also occurs while driving. I'm concerned about potential engine damage and am wondering what could be causing this noise.

Hi Samantha, it's possible that the tapping noise is caused by low oil levels or worn out spark plugs. I recommend checking your oil levels and ensuring they are at the recommended level. If they are low, top it off and see if the noise persists. If the issue continues, it's best to take your car to a certified mechanic for further inspection.

Hello Samantha, I had a similar issue with my Ford Focus and it turned out to be a faulty valve cover gasket. This can cause the tapping noise you are hearing. Replacing the gasket should solve the problem. I suggest taking your car to a trusted mechanic for a proper diagnosis and repair.
